Strategic plan at Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Anoka Technical College focuses on diversity, inclusion

Administrators, faculty and staff at Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Anoka Technical College are working to promote diversity and inclusion at each college through the strategic planning process.

Established in 2016, the Strategic Diversity & Inclusion Implementation Plan addresses an increasing need to focus on inclusion, in support of the community and its changing demographics. The plan is being implemented at both colleges, which were aligned in 2011.

“Our focus with this strategic plan is creating equity for students, so that we can meet students where they are and ensure that students of every background have access to education and opportunity,” said Director of Diversity and Multiculturalism Venoreen Browne-Boatswain. “We are working to make both of our colleges more inclusive, and to promote an atmosphere of cultural awareness.”    

The strategic goals for Anoka-Ramsey include:

• Ensure a supportive, inclusive and empowering environment
• Recruitment processes are equitable and inclusive
• Increase retention through equitable student support
• Promote equity practices in and out of the classroom
• Support a diverse team of faculty, staff, administrations and college board members who are committed to inclusive excellence

At Anoka Technical College, one strategic goal has been set to help the college meet the unique needs of the student population. The primary goal for diversity and inclusion at Anoka Tech is to increase retention through equitable student support.

“We have already begun to implement these changes, but there is still more work to be done,” said Boatswain. “We will continue to build upon our efforts to promote inclusivity throughout the academic year.”
