Origins Art Exhibition displays work from graduating Art students March 23 through April 28
March 06, 2017
Anoka-Ramsey Community College will showcase art created by talented students in the Origins Art Exhibition, Thursday, March 23 through Friday, April 28. The pieces will be on display during college hours in the Coon Rapids Visual Arts Building, 2nd floor gallery. This event is free and the public is encouraged to come by and appreciate the work.
This exhibition is produced by student in the Portfolio Class which is taken during a student’s final semester in the college’s Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree program. As part of the class, each student works with a mentor faculty member to learn to write an artist statement, apply for shows and grants, create a portfolio and put together an exhibition.
The pieces student choose to exhibit in this final show can be a mix of the strongest work created throughout their degree in a mix of art mediums, or it can be a series of pieces in one medium. Each student decides what area of the Visual Arts building to display their work in and each is responsible for displaying their work professionally.
Students participating in the show include: Rachel Cain, Nancy Graves, Brayden Johnson, Charles Jokinen, Alexander Kasick, Nicole Longfield, Rachel Longfield, Klara Porath, Leah Pratt, Deborah Rutt, Grace Simonson and Lacey Sorbo.
The opening exhibition reception is Thursday, March. 23, 5:30 to 7:30 pm. This event is also free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
A final closing reception is scheduled for Friday, April 28, 1 to 4 pm, during Anoka-Ramsey’s 2nd annual student OSCARS (Outstanding Scholarship, Creative Activities and Research Symposium) event on. At the closing reception, each student will present their work, artist statement and talk about their artwork process.
