Anoka-Ramsey Community College is hosting Patrick Scully, a local theatre legend, and his one-man show about the life of Walt Whitman titled, Leaves of Grass: Illuminated , Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, noon to 1:30 pm, Cambridge Campus Rm G202.
The event coincides with National Coming Out Day 2018 and is sponsored by the English Department, the Gender-Sexuality Alliance on the Cambridge Campus and the Office of Diversity and Multiculturalism.
The show, now on its second year of touring, has been performed across Minnesota, as well as nationally. On the bicentennial of Walt Whitman's birth, Scully illuminates the life and work of this major American poet. In a one-man show that Lavender magazine called, "a truly great American work of theatrical art," Scully takes on the role of Whitman to tell the story of the poet's struggle to break boundaries in literature and sexual identity generations ahead of his time. "Scully is the perfect caretaker for Whitman's legacy," said a review in the Star Tribune.
