College hosts annual Business Professionals of America (BPA) for regional high schools
March 06, 2017
Anoka-Ramsey Community College recently hosted the Minnesota State High School Region 4, Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regional Conference.
Anoka-Ramsey’s Coon Rapids Campus has hosted the annual event for nearly 28 years. This year more than 250 local area high school students, instructors and business people attended.
Students are prepared to be judged in areas such as job interview and presentation skills, and knowledge-based exams. They also spend time networking with other members from different schools in the region.
The top qualifiers from this regional competition will advance to state conference. Top state conference qualifiers will advance to compete at the National Leadership Conference in May. Competitions range from individual to team and from objective tests to judged presentations. Each conference prepares students to be part of an effective, skilled national workforce.
The Region 4 Conference is jointly coordinated by BPA Region 4 staff, high school instructors and student members from the following high schools: Anoka, Benilde-St. Margaret, Blaine, Brooklyn Center, Champlin Park, Coon Rapids, Cooper, Fridley, Irondale (New Brighton), Minneapolis North, Minneapolis Roosevelt, St. Francis, St. Michael Albertville and Anoka Ramsey’s Business instructor, Dr. Jerry Horazdovsky.
“Many people worked hard to this event successful,” said Horazdovsky. “A special thank you to Anoka-Ramsey’s President, Dr. Kent Hanson for kicking off the event and giving a warm welcome to our guests. Great appreciation to all those from Anoka-Ramsey departments who provided excellent customer service: Admissions, Bookstore, Business faculty/staff, Facilities, Front-Line staff, Lancer Food Service, Office of Information Technology and Security.”
BPA has a strong history as a student organization that contributes to the preparation of global professionals through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills for students at the middle, secondary and post-secondary levels.
